Nancy Meyers’ remake of The Parent Trap operates at the threshold between classical and modern blending narratives. The plot—identical twins separated at birth orchestrate their divorced parents’ reunion—is fundamentally anti-blended: its goal is the restoration of the original nuclear unit. However, the film inadvertently exposes blended tensions. The stepparent figure (Meredith Blake, the young, materialistic fiancée) is rendered as a villain, perpetuating the wicked stepmother trope. More significantly, the film fails to acknowledge that the family is already blended: both parents have moved on, and the children must integrate two separate households.
