There’s a lovely irony: Cloud Atlas is a film obsessed with reincarnation, degraded copies, and survival through imperfect transmission. YIFY’s AAC 2.0 downmix is the bigger loss. The original 5.1 mix by Ivan Sharrock uses swirling panning to tie scenes together (a door slamming in 1975 echoes a spaceship hatch in 2144). In stereo, that spatial poetry flattens. The beautiful piano-based score (co-written by Tykwer, Johnny Klimek, and Reinhold Heil) survives, but the rumble of the Sonmi~451 revelation feels weaker.
