For wind quintets, this work broke the mold. Before 1968, the quintet repertoire was dominated by neo-classical divertimentos (Reicha, Nielsen, Ibert). (1923–2006) is widely regarded as one of the most innovative composers of the 20th century. His Six Bagatelles for Wind Quintet (original German title: Sechs Bagatellen für Bläserquintett ) occupies a unique position in his oeuvre: it is an early work, composed in 1953 in Budapest, yet it foreshadows many of the micropolyphonic, rhythmic, and textural techniques that would later define his mature style. The piece is an arrangement of movements from his piano cycle Musica ricercata (1951–1953). IMSLP is a repository for public domain scores
