YBM (Yonsei-Barun Munhwa) has been a cornerstone of English education in South Korea since 1961. Its English Basics series—targeting false beginners (CEFR A1–A2)—has sold over 2 million print copies. Since 2022, YBM has offered PDF editions via its e-Shop. However, no peer-reviewed study has examined how the PDF format alters the cognitive load and learning outcomes of this specific curriculum. This paper addresses that gap.
