Julian canceled the “Dawn Clarity” contract. Instead, he booked the entire Complete lifestyle amphitheater for one night. No VR. No filters. Just Mira and her crowbar, a steel pipe, and a microphone that fed directly into the audience’s bone-conduction seats.

For decades, the "lifestyle" genre was defined by aspiration. Women's magazines and television shows presented a curated world of domestic perfection, flawless skin, and seamless career trajectories. Excellent case. A few months before this was published, I met Lee Ranaldo at a film he was presenting and I brought this album for him to sign. Lee said it was his “favorite” Sonic Youth album, and (no surprise) it’s mine too, which is why I brought it.

For the record, I love and own nearly every studio album they released, so it’s not a mere preference for a particular stage of their career – it’s simply the one that came out on top.
